| As already noted the sequence of reliefs at Bishapur form the most important
group for understanding Sassanian imperial representation, and especially the
aspirations and claims of Shapur I. The largest of them is a panoramic relief
built around a central tableau of Shapur I with the three Roman emperors he
defeated or overcame: Gordian II, Philip and Valerian. |
